At the Airport
For the first time in nearly three years, we’re in Asia. And what better place to do it than one of my favourite places, in Bali. Ok, perhaps Noraly from ItchyBoots or Kinga from On Her Bike might indulgently smile and nod and think it’s a little tame (actually, I don’t believe they would), but it’s our first fly/ride. You have to start somewhere. First of many and I’m super glad to be here. It’s 5.30am (gee, thanks, jetlag) and we’re in the Airport Hilton (which sounds fancier than it is). And I’m excited.
Yesterday, we drove Kristo home, said goodbye to the cats, and headed 1 1/2 hours south to the Airport. Parked there (expensive, but easy) and checked in. Somewhat surprisingly considering the things people have been saying about Jetstar lately, the check-in was easy and efficient. We were through customs and security in an hour (though security didn’t like my motorcycle jeans). Flight was ok. I slept most of the way, and Dalma watched movies. I’d forgotten how little space we are allocated, but we made it. Airport was a bit more fraught with a new step in the process of getting through: that of buying a Visa on Arrival. But we made it through in 1 1/2 hours. We were met at the airport by the hotel, and (with only a little disappointment that the bar was closed), we went to bed.
Today, we ride to Ubud for a couple of days of pampering before the real travel starts. I’d like to go along the Bali Mandara toll road, which is an engineering marvel (apparently) but I’ll have to organise a card for that. Either way, toll or no toll, we’ll get there this afternoon
So excited.
